Nintendo Direct September 2025: Every Announcement and Reveal

Nintendo’s September 12, 2025 Direct presentation has wrapped, and it proved to be a milestone showcase, its first full-length Direct since the reveal of the Switch 2 earlier this year. Running a full 60 minutes, the broadcast balanced nostalgia, blockbuster reveals, and fresh surprises. So what exactly was shown?

The show opened with the long-awaited confirmation that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond finally has a release date, bringing Samus Aran back into the spotlight after years of anticipation. Another highlight came in the form of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, a brand-new entry in the Warriors spin-off series launching on November 6, 2025, exclusively for Switch 2.

Mario’s 40th anniversary took center stage with several announcements. Nintendo is bundling Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 into a collection arriving on October 2, 2025 for both Switch and Switch 2. Fans also got a first look at Mario Tennis Fever, which launches on Switch 2 on February 12, 2026, boasting 38 playable characters and a wealth of modes. A new Yoshi adventure, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, will arrive in Spring 2026, bringing a storybook-style twist to the series. Meanwhile, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is expanding with the “Bellabel Park” DLC, which adds both cooperative and competitive content. To top it off, Nintendo confirmed that the Mario movie universe will continue with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, slated for release in April 2026.

Third-party partners also had a strong showing. Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade will hit Switch 2 on January 22, 2026, while a brand-new take on Dragon Quest VII known as Dragon Quest VII Reimagined (very imaginative, I know) is scheduled for February 5, 2026. Indie fans weren’t left out either, with Supergiant Games confirming the 1.0 release of Hades II for September 25, 2025.

Retro enthusiasts got a surprise when Nintendo announced that Virtual Boy games are being added to Switch Online + Expansion Pack, complete with a hardware accessory to make them playable on modern systems. On the DLC front, Donkey Kong Bananza received new content and cosmetics, available immediately after the show.

This Direct mattered not just for what was revealed, but for what it signaled. Nintendo made it clear that the Switch 2 era is beginning in earnest, while continuing to support the original Switch with key titles. The heavy emphasis on Mario reinforced the plumber’s place at the heart of Nintendo’s identity, while third-party commitments added credibility to the Switch 2’s growing library. Even smaller touches, like reviving Virtual Boy games, showcased Nintendo’s willingness to celebrate every corner of its history, yet sadly the original Pokémon titles continue to be glossed over. Port them to Switch Online, Nintendo, please, I beg you.

But all in all, Nintendo’s September 2025 Direct felt like more than just a list of games; it was a statement of intent. With new adventures, classic revivals, and cross-generational support, the company has laid out a busy and exciting roadmap for the months ahead. Whether you’re sticking with the Switch or jumping to Switch 2, there’s plenty to look forward to. Leave your thoughts in the comments below

I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
