Sony’s September State of Play Delivers Saros Gameplay, Wolverine Surprise & Big First-Party Updates

Sony’s State of Play for September 2025 landed tonight, and it delivered more than fans hoped. Over roughly 35 minutes of streaming, Sony revealed the first extended gameplay for Saros, Housemarque’s newest action title, confirmed its launch date, and dropped unexpected looks at Wolverine and other PlayStation titles. This showcase reinforces Sony’s strategy: leveraging both its first-party strength and bold third-party partnerships heading into 2026.

The centerpiece of tonight’s games broadcast (sorry, couldn't resist) was Saros. Housemarque gave us nearly five minutes of gameplay captured on the PS5, revealing new combat systems, world mechanics, and narrative glimpses. Most importantly, Sony confirmed that Saros will launch on March 20, 2026, for PS5 and be enhanced for PS5 Pro. In the demo, we witnessed how the shape-shifting planet of Carcosa reacts to death and eclipse mechanics, saw protagonist Arjun Devraj (voiced by Rahul Kohli) interact with allies and enemies, and got a taste of the game’s tension between exploration and punishment.

But Saros wasn’t the only star of the show. Sony also unveiled a first gameplay trailer for Wolverine, marking a major surprise reveal. The Wolverine sequence leaned into brutality and high-fidelity visuals, reminding fans of Insomniac’s pedigree with character-driven superhero action. Wolverine is now officially part of the PlayStation narrative, with expectations that it will land in fall 2026.

Beyond those marquee titles, Sony’s showcase spread its wings across multiple genres. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is making its debut on PS5 in December, bringing a flagship simulation experience to the console for the first time. Remasters, multiplayer games, and third-party surprises also took the stage, adding depth to the evening’s program. On the hardware and peripheral front, Sony announced Pulse Elevate, a new wireless desktop speaker line designed to sync with PS5, PC, and Portal devices.

Taken together, tonight’s slate tells a clear story: Sony is primed to lean heavily on narrative-driven exclusives (Saros, Wolverine), while also opening its doors to strong third-party partners, even if one of them is from their competitor (Flight Simulator, remasters). The mix suggests PlayStation is positioning itself for both scale and variety heading into the next console years, something that feels long overdue after almost 5 years into the current generation.

Tonight’s State of Play did more than tease new titles — it set a tone. With Saros’s March 2026 launch now solid, Wolverine stepping into the limelight after being hidden for so long due to the Insomniac hacks setback, and a lineup bridging remasters, simulations, and bold peripheral tech, Sony wants to remind players that PS5 still has momentum. As we move deeper into 2026, the challenge will be balancing the blockbuster ambitions with sustained support for indie voices and platform diversity. But for now, PlayStation’s future looks energised, ambitious, and full of promise. Stay tuned for more PlayStation news, trailers, and State of Play recaps whenever they pop up, and comment below what you liked or didn't like from the State of Play.

I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
