The Oblivion Remaster Is Real And It’s Here!
Most likely viewed as one of the worst-kept gaming secrets, if not the worst-kept, the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is real and it’s finally here!
Time to once more shut the jaws of Oblivion, this time in HD!
In a time before Skyrim (but after Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind) there was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Oblivion was an RPG for the ages. Releasing all the way back in 2006 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, it was the first mainline entry to release on the seventh generation of consoles to critical and commercial acclaim.
This was a time when Bethesda was highly regarded and in its prime, though Oblivion did receive some criticism for its regression of RPG mechanics. But to many, Oblivion is a gaming classic. And so, Bethesda has partnered with Virtuos to bring Oblivion to 2025 with all the bells and whistles you’d expect of a remaster.
Building on the game’s original “cutting-edge technology” engine, Virtuos has utilized Unreal Engine 5 to take everything that made Oblivion great and cranked it up to 11. Boasting the usual enhanced graphics, Virtuos also reworked the combat and animations, making it seem a little less janky while still holding onto that signature Bethesda charm.
More importantly, they expanded on what other improvements they’ve brought to the remaster. The original game was lacking in voice work, but the developers have gone all in, recording new voice lines and ensuring each race sounds different. I’m personally hoping they left some of the voice line blunders intact.
Virtuos also explained their overhaul of the skill systems, citing inspiration from both Oblivion and Skyrim. It seems they are keeping the classes and expanding further on the skills and classes to make them stand out more. It’ll be interesting to see what has changed from the original 2006 launch.
There’s plenty more information in the official reveal video, including a look at the history of Oblivion from developers who worked on the original and the team at Virtuous who took the lead on the remaster. And to top it all off, the two teams announced the game is launching today on Xbox Series consoles, Game Pass, PlayStation 5, and PC, complete with both story expansions. I already have my copy downloading.

I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
