Atari Acquires 5 Smaller Ubisoft IPs

Ubisoft selling off five of their lesser-known IPs to Atari of all companies was not on my 2025 Gaming Bingo Card, and yet…

From out of nowhere, Atari has struck an agreement to acquire the licenses for five of Ubisoft's dormant IP with the intention of bringing them to new platforms. Sadly, these are more cult classics than huge hits, but that doesn't mean they should be overlooked. The five games in question are Cold Fear, I Am Alive, Child of Eden, Grow Home, and Grow Up, which is not an insult simulator.

Ubisoft have an entire treasure trove of dormant IP they have been sitting on like some dragon hoarding gold, so it's good to see they're willing to part with some of their previous works. According to the strategic agreement between both companies: “Atari and Ubisoft announced that Atari has acquired all intellectual property rights for five acclaimed Ubisoft titles with a view to making them available on new platforms.

Atari will re-release these titles under their publishing label and explore opportunities to expand their reach through updated formats, new content, and extended distribution channels.” We'll be getting more than just re-releases for these games, but whether they'll be mere ports or what other content we'll get down the line remains to be seen. An interesting point to note is that Nightdive Studios, a studio renowned for their work on remasters and remakes, is a subsidiary of Atari, so it's likely the work will be handed over to them.

This comes after Ubisoft announced they have no further games lined up for the rest of 2025. Earlier in the year, they created their own subsidiary to focus on their major IP, namely Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. Everything else seems to be sitting on the table, so it would make sense to sell off some lesser-known IPs. There's been no word if this is the start of a trend, but it's interesting nonetheless.

I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
