Dead Island 2 Surpasses 20 Million Players; Dead Island 3 Confirmed in Development
Deep Silver celebrates a major milestone and teases the next chapter in the zombie-slaying saga.
With a tongue-in-cheek nod to the Godfather of Zombies George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, we get a celebration of Dead Island 2’s wild success as well as a hint at the future. Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios have announced that Dead Island 2 has surpassed 20 million players worldwide.
This achievement comes after the game's successful launch in April 2023, which saw over 2 million units sold within the first two months. The player base continued to grow, bolstered by its availability on Xbox Game Pass and a free promotion during the Epic Games Store 2025 Mega Sale.
In celebration of the 14th anniversary of the Dead Island series, Dambuster Studios teased the next installment, presumably Dead Island 3. The developer shared an image with the caption, "When there's no more room in Hell-A..." suggesting a new setting for the upcoming game.
While details about Dead Island 3 remain under wraps, the confirmation of its development indicates that the franchise is set to continue its legacy of open-world zombie action.
As the Dead Island series evolves, fans can anticipate more expansive environments, new characters, and the signature blend of humor and horror that has defined the franchise. With the next Dead Island entry in development, the journey through the zombie apocalypse is far from over. Not bad for a game stuck in development hell for 9 years. Will you be picking up the next Dead Island? Sound off in the comments!
I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
