Helldivers 2 Drops On Xbox Consoles In August

Helldivers 2 players are about to receive a whole new squadron of support as the game makes its way to Xbox Series X|S consoles later this summer.

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. In a monumental move for players dreaming of playing games on whatever device they like without having to worry about console restrictions, Sony-published Helldivers 2 will be joining PS and PC players when it launches on Xbox late next month.

The announcement came via developers Arrowhead themselves, with Game Director Mikael Eriksson sharing the team's enthusiasm for new recruits over on an Xbox Wire post: “We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the future months and years - and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has just begun.”

Xbox players will deploy on August 26th to reinforce the current Helldivers 2 players population on other systems, bolstering the already impressive numbers that are currently playing. The Xbox release will include cross-play, enabling all three systems to team up and defend Super Earth and help liberate other planets affected by the Terminids, the race of insectoid aliens that are going around and ruining people's days.

This news is great for Xbox players to try something new, but it might weaken the impact the next Xbox game going to PlayStation consoles, Gears of War: Reloaded, will have as they are due to launch on the same day. While PlayStation players eager to play Gears of War: Reloaded will likely jump in to experience the series’ roots, it does mean less players for Helldivers 2 and vice-versa. Nonetheless, it should even out soon after and both games should thrive with a healthy playerbase.

What do you make of the news that a Sony-published game is making its way to Xbox? Sound off below.

I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
