Mega Man Could Be Returning To Our Screens
Based on a company statement by Capcom, we may see a new entry in the Mega Man series after the last entry back in 2018.
While Capcom are not the only ones sitting on an entire treasure trove of dormant IP (looking at you, Ubisoft), they do have a number of fan favourites gathering dust in their backrooms. Sadly it seems Dino Crisis is still getting passed over, as the publisher instead focuses on other IP.
But it's not all doom and gloom, however, as a recent shareholders’ general meeting included the mention of the Mega Man franchise, the most recent new entry, Mega Man 11, having been released seven years ago. Mega Man has turned up in collections since, so he hasn't entirely been forgotten, but fans of the series have been hoping for something new.
“The Mega Man series is one of our most important IPs, and we are continuously considering ways to develop it further,” Capcom said during a Q&A session as part of the overall shareholders' meeting. “However, we do not have any additional information we can share at this time.”
The singling out of the Mega Man franchise in particular is interesting, of course. But the mention of not having additional information to share could be a hint that a new entry is indeed in the works, but could be some ways out. If that is the case, we could be getting an announcement when the game is further along in development.
Capcom has been focusing on other best-selling IP as of late, such as the Resident Evil, with the announcement of Resident Evil: Requiem last month and the release of Monster Hunter Wilds earlier this year, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of another successful franchise returning to the mainstream with a new entry.
Would you be interested in a new Mega Man game or is there another IP you'd rather see return? Let us know in the comments.
I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
