Next-Gen Xbox Consoles Rumours Surface, Two Systems In Development?
Rumours are abound that Microsoft are working on two next-gen systems again, but not like that. One of the rumoured consoles will be an Xbox-themed handheld.
Two new Xbox consoles are on the horizon, one of which could be a handheld.
If the rumours currently circulating around the old internet are true, Microsoft are currently hard at work on a duo of next-gen consoles for us to get our hands on. One of those systems appears to be an Xbox-themed handled. But those rumours also hint that it might not necessarily be a first-party console.
From the reports, it seems that Microsoft is partnering up with an outside third-party to bring an Xbox-branded handheld to its playerbase. While Microsoft is hard at work on the successor to the Xbox Series consoles, it seems they are outsourcing the development of an Xbox handheld to an unknown PC Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
These plans were greenlit alongside plans for the NextBox and multiple new controller options that will feature “direct-to-cloud connectivity” for an enhanced gaming experience. The next-generation hardware is rumoured for a 2027 release while the third-party Xbox handheld could potentially surface later this year.
It appears the third-party handheld is not the official Xbox handheld that Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer has confirmed to be in the works as Spencer has stated that is years away. Being developed as Codename Keenan, the third-party device will feature similar design elements to an Xbox to help it fit in with their current products.
With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year and Codename Keenan, it seems we won’t be short of options for handhelds any time soon! Are you set for more handheld gaming devices in the future? Let us know in the comments.
I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
