Eight Games To Keep An Eye On From Gamescom ONL

Gamescom’s Opening Night Live was full of dozens of games across both its pre-show and main event. And while there is something for everyone, not everything is for everyone.

Geoff Keighley returns once again to host Gamescom's Opening Night Live in Cologne, and he brings with him scores of games big and small that are sure to get people reaching for their wallets. With a stacked show full of AAA blockbusters and indie delights, it might be tough to keep an eye on everything. To help out a little, I'll be listing eight games that I think are worth keeping an eye on.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

I'm a sucker for the Lego games. They're a nice, relaxing time for all ages and are a great palate cleanser if you're just getting off your live-service job or a Souls-like. And while I'm not much of a Batman fan, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight compiles iconic scenes from all across Batman media, like the comics, movies, and even other videos games. Astute observers will likely have picked up on Bane being voiced by none other than Matt Berry, one of the most unique voices, in my humble opinion. Pull on your cape and tights, the Caped Crusader is needed once more.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Announced at last year's The Game Awards, Onimusha: Way of the Sword saw a brand-new trailer at ONL. The latest entry in Capcom’s sword-slinging action series, Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s latest trailer shows off protagonist Musashi Miyamoto square off against some freaky monsters and some exciting combat. While we don't have any set release date, we do know it's coming in 2026, but fans at Gamescom did get hands on with a demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword courtesy of Microsoft.

The Darkest Files

Set in Germany during the throes of World War II, The Darkest Files is a bleak look into the following years. Players must process documents, investigate the crimes, interrogate witnesses, and prosecute Nazis to protect post-war Germany and bring justice to the victims. Drawing inspiration from the Ace Attorney and Obra Dinn games, The Darkest Files is billed as a historical true crime game, and it's latest trailer is worth a watch.

Silent Hill f

We got another look at the next entry in the Silent Hill franchise, with Silent Hill f taking us out of the namesake town and dropping us in 1960’s rural Japan. The new English trailer differs from the previous English trailer in that it actually features English dialogue. A shocker, I know. We got a look at what appears to be Konami’s take on Souls-like combat against all manner of supernatural creatures. Doing away with the UI during exploration will help keep players on their toes as they traverse a strange fog engulfing the town they're in. We'll get to see just how good a Japanese school girl is at combat a few months.

Cronos: The New Dawn

Moving from Silent Hill 2 to Cronos The New Dawn, Bloober Team is focusing on what they do best: horror. Of the survival variety. While people were initially cautious about Bloober Team heading up the Silent Hill 2 remake, they knocked it out of the park, and then turned their full focus to Cronos: The New Dawn, a brand new survival horror IP that sees players travel back from a desolate future to 1980s Poland. The new trailer shows just how poorly 1980s Poland is fairing, so it's up to players to figure out where things went wrong and try to rescue key people in a bid to alter the future.

La Divina Commedia

I'll be honest, I don't know how you get a dark fantasy action RPG from Italy's most famous poet, but it leads to us getting La Divina Commedia my boy Dante must have had some vivid imagination). The Divine Comedy is viewed as a new religion that has surpassed others, bringing about a Golden Age of Righteousness among humanity. But the Divine Comedy gets subverted, resulting in humanity's fall from grace. The trailer for La Divina Commedia showcases some beautiful graphics, demonic creatures, and some very fluid combat. No release date for this one, but it's still one to watch.

Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem’s latest trailer showcases the gorgeous graphics the RE Engine is known for, and we see it in full effect as the story cutscenes blend seamlessly with the gameplay snippets we see. We get a look at protagonist Grace Ashcroft’s backstory, meaning this segment is likely one of the first we get to play when Requiem launches on February 27th, 2026. When Grace, now an FBI agent, is assigned to a case of a victim of an unidentified disease at an abandoned hotel, she must put aside the similarities at the crime scene to her mother's murder. In doing so, Grace uncovers a connection to the Raccoon City Outbreak.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui

Betcha didn't see that one coming. On the eve of the one year anniversary of Black Myth Wukong launching on PC and PS5, and the literal eve of it launching on Xbox Series X|S, Game Science revealed the second installment of the Black Myth series, Black Myth Zhong Kui. Credit it where it's due, as most people were anticipating DLC for Wukong (which I'm guessing is still in the works). With a DLC for Wukong on the way and a new entry in the series, it seems Game Science are going to pace their releases so fans aren't left waiting too long. Black Myth Zhong Kui focuses on the ghost-catching god Zhong Kui, and the announcement trailer is truly a sight to behold.

So, there we have it. That's eight games I reckon are worth keeping an eye on over the coming months. There were still plenty of excellent games on show, so feel free to check out the video at the top of the article.

I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
