It’s Official: Fable Is Delayed To 2026

After months with no substantial updates, we finally heard more on Fable. And it’s… not good news. Fable has been pushed to 2026.

The Elder Scrolls VI? No, it’s the other fantasy RPG that continues to elude us. Though I can see how you’d be mistaken.

Fans of the beloved fantasy RPG, Fable, de-joice! We got an update on the upcoming Xbox-exclusive: it’s not coming this year as hoped. Rather, it’s been pushed into next year to give Playground Games more time to polish and refine the experience. But it’s not all doom and gloom. We did get a look at some new gameplay to help soften the blow.

While speaking on an episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan says, “So, I just want to start with really excited, really excited about progress, really excited where Playground are. We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025; we are actually going to give Fable more time, and it's going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that's not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it's definitely worth the wait. And I just, I have unequivocal confidence in the Playground team.”

Playground Games are the minds behind the excellent Forza Horizon series, so seeing them break tradition and go into a fantasy setting and building an RPG from the ground up is definitely not what most people expected when the reboot of Fable was announced. But it’s important for studios to try something new, and I feel Playground will do a stellar job in that regard. The gameplay we see is enough to get me excited.

Are you disappointed with the latest update on Fable or do you want the game to launch in the best possible state? Sound off in the comments!

I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
