More Layoffs Coming At Microsoft
The number of layoffs in gaming continues to grow with Microsoft once again adding to the overall toll.
Despite the leaps and strides Microsoft has been making lately in terms of hardware and game releases, their good press always seems to get washed away before they can build a solid foundation. This time, the bad press comes in the way of (further) layoffs at Xbox.
Just last month, Microsoft laid off 3% of their overall staff, totalling a near 7,000 job termination count. This is in addition to the layoffs in the Xbox division back in January, though the exact number laid off then remains a mystery.
Following the purchase of Activision-Blizzard in 2023, the first major round of layoffs began in January 2024, with roughly 1900 roles reduced across Xbox Game Studios, Activision-Blizzard, and ZeniMax. A further 650 jobs were cut across Xbox as a whole in September of 2024.
While Xbox appears to be on a roll for new games and hardware being released, they're also keeping pace with staff layoffs. Do you expect to hear of more layoffs across the industry for this year? Let us know in the comments section.
I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
