Wonder Woman Rebooted - Wonder What Happened To The $100 Million

Wondering how the progress is going on Warner Bros Games’ Wonder Woman game they announced a while back? Wonder no longer! The answer? Not good.

Wonder Woman whips out her Lasso of Truth to get WB Games to admit their game has no direction.

It’s been a hot minute since we got an update on the Wonder Woman game currently in development over at WB Games and this update is not exactly what people were hoping to hear: the game has been rebooted and Monolith Games have taken the game back to the drawing board. But not before already spending a cool $100 million on production. That’s a lot of money to essentially flush away.

Announced back in 2021 with Monolith Games at the helm - the developers behind the Middle-earth games - it would be featuring the fan-favourite Nemesis System from that series of games, a feature that WB Games was quick to patent so it couldn’t be replicated. The Nemesis System was a feature that would let enemies you bested in the Middle-earth games come back much stronger seeking revenge on the player for defeating or humiliating them.

Sadly, it seems the Wonder Woman game currently in development has been rebooted before, too. Monolith has been working on the new project since 2021, with the game officially announced with a brief teaser trailer during the Game Awards that year. However, it seems that Wonder Woman was stuck in development hell for around 3 years with the developers not knowing what direction in which to take the game. This led to the game being rebooted early on in 2024.

It’s been alleged by Bloomberg that there were issues trying to fit the Nemesis System into a video game focusing on a superheroine, saying: “An initial version of Wonder Woman tried reimagining the Nemesis system with the game’s namesake heroine befriending enemies, but that idea has since been tossed out in favor of a more traditional action-adventure game."

There’s a lot going on behind the scenes of Wonder Woman and it seems to be stuck with nowhere to go, currently. Will a Wonder Woman game work out and be fun to play? Let us know in the comments.

I created this website as I feel the state of the games industry and games reporting as a whole has gotten overly negative and full of clickbait. While I understand both of these are a great way to generate engagement, it’s a detriment to those gamers (like myself) that are just trying to enjoy games and not have to worry about the negativity of the current state of the gaming industry. I want a space where gamers can come for unbiased news that doesn’t rely on clickbait or rumours with a dash of humour and have the opportunity to share their passion for games.
