Microsoft Joins Sony In Increasing Console Prices
Microsoft has just announced that they will be increasing the prices on both their mainline consoles, certain peripherals, and some of their first-party games, beginning sometime this year.
2025 was already getting expensive, and Microsoft are the latest to join the frenzy
Video gaming is an expensive hobby, especially if you’re trying to keep up with all of the new releases that are coming out or if you like to keep up with battle passes. Even buying a replacement controller or a new headset isn’t exactly cheap, either, with new accessories costing the price of a brand new game. It quickly adds up, especially during busy release periods. And it seems to be getting worse, as Microsoft has confirmed price increases for a number of its products.
After Sony’s recent price increases for their baseline PlayStation 5 Standard and Digital Editions, Microsoft has joined in and announced its own price increases. Like certain Nintendo Switch 2 titles - also announced recently - some of Microsoft’s first-party releases will see an increase in base prices to €80 or your regional equivalent.
Some of the more high-end controllers will also see a price increase, while the Xbox Wireless Headset increases by $10 in the United States alone. The full list of affected products can be found over on the Xbox Support page.
Lastly, and perhaps the most important one, outside of the price of games, all variants of Xbox’s consoles will also see their prices rise.
Xbox Series S 512GB new price: $379.99/€349.99/£299.99/$AUD549.00
Xbox Series S 1TB: $429.99/€399.99/£349.99/$AUD599.00
Xbox Series X Digital: $549.99/€549.99/£449.99/$AUD749.00
Xbox Series X: $599.99/€599.99/£499.99/$AUD849.99
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Special Edition: $729.99/€699.99/£589.99/$AUD1049.99
Other regions will also see updated retailer pricing, though this will differ per country. What do you think about the increases in prices all across gaming? Let us know in the comments.

EA Announces New Layoffs At Respawn, Two Projects Axed
EA has just announced a fresh wave of layoffs at their subsidiary studio Respawn Entertainment alongside the cancellation of two games.
Looks like the main Titanfall franchise has well and truly fallen
One of my biggest gripes with the video game industry, particularly the AAA side of things, is the layoff of hard-working staff and the closure of studios. With the number of layoffs affecting video game developers continuing to rise year on year, it’s any wonder that there are still studios able to publish games. Sadly, it seems a number of developers over at Titanfall creators, Respawn Entertainment, will be adding to that ever-growing list.
The news was announced over on Respawn’s socials, the layoffs branded as “targeted team adjustments” in a dreaded JPEG of Doom. Around 100 employees from Respawn will be let go as part of this latest round of staff cuts, but to add further insult to injury, two projects that were in development at Respawn are no longer going ahead. One of the projects is meant to have been a spin-off title of the Titanfall franchise.
It seems anything set in the Titanfall universe since their battle royale take on the lore, Apex Legends, is doomed to fail. In this instance, rumours are pointing to the cancelled Titanfall spin-off as it being an extraction shooter. I had assumed half of the appeal of a battle royale was attempting to extract with your loot, but maybe they were trying for a release akin to Escape From Tarkov.
The lay offs and cancellation of games is yet another blow to those of us awaiting Titanfall 3, as Respawn seem to be focusing their remaining talent on further updates for Apex Legends and the upcoming sequel to Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.
Respawn aren’t the the only studio affected, as EA are letting go of between 300 and 400 staff across all of their studios. Fingers crossed the staff affected are able to find new roles soon. While the number of layoffs doesn’t seem as extreme as the past few years, it’s always disappointing to hear the talent behind some of the best games on the market are being let go.
What do you think of these layoffs? Do you think we’ll ever see a Titanfall 3 or are we doomed to repeat the Apex Legends cycle? Let us know in the comments.

Borderlands 4 Release Date Moved Up Two Weeks
Most developers delay their games to add polish or to rework gameplay that isn’t as well received as anticipated. But sometimes, developers are also confident enough in their product that they actually move their release dates closer. Borderlands 4 is the next such title.
Borderlands 4: Terminator Edition just got a new release date
Borderlands 4 is still some ways out, but with the latest news from 2K Games, that looks to be changing. Moving from its original release date of September 23rd, Borderlands 4 is now set to launch on September 12th, not quite the full two weeks sooner as advertised. But hey, we’ll take it.
Announced over the official Borderlands social media account, the statement starts out like a traditional announcement of a delay in JPEG form, only for them to take things in the opposite direction and state they’re bringing the release date forward by two weeks, though we’ve already established it’s not exactly two weeks.
Citing much deliberation through multiple meetings and extensive playtesting, 2K Games has made the difficult decision to bring the game to audiences even sooner than anticipated, which is excellent news provided it’s not in the same boat as many other modern-day releases and launching still laden with bugs.
To make things even more bearable, 2K has partnered with Sony for a special Borderlands 4-exclusive State of Play taking place tomorrow, April 30th at 10pm, IST. This extended deep dive will focus on gameplay featuring new weapons, abilities, and story missions. The showcase will only be 20 minutes long, but here’s hoping every minute is jam-packed with gameplay.
Will you be picking up Borderlands 4 on its new release date? Let us know down in the comments.
Next Peek At Mafia: The Old Country Announced For Early May
With the release just around the corner, 2K Games are starting to add to the hype with the announcement of a new trailer for Mafia: The Old Country at PAX East.
2K and Hangar are taking Mafia back to its roots. Or the roots of the roots, as Mafia: The Old Country is set in the early 1900s
It won’t be long before we get our hands on the next entry in the Mafia series, with the release of Mafia: The Old Country set for a summer release. Until then, the developers have teased a little update on when we can expect a new update for the upcoming crime-filled action-adventure.
Hangar 13 has announced that a new trailer for Mafia: The Old Country will premiere at PAX East on May 8th. Promising the mark of the next chapter, the new gameplay trailer will take place at 4pm BST, with an in-depth “Family Takes Sacrifice” developer panel following a little later at 7pm BST.
Taking the Mafia series out of the United States and back to 1900s Sicily is a bold step for the franchise, setting up a story where players will uncover the origins of the mob and organized crime as new protagonist Enzo Favara and his eventual rise within the Torrisi crime family.
The Old Country will be taking a step back in terms of gameplay, focusing on a more linear, story-driven experience similar to the first two Mafia titles. Built in Unreal Engine 5, Hangar 13 has also promised enhanced visual fidelity and a focus on authenticity in a bid to make The Old Country as accurate as possible.
With a gameplay trailer set for May 8th, fans can get a look at how Mafia: The Old Country plays and see if any interesting new gameplay features will be featured in the full game when it launches on August 8th. Will you be picking up Mafia: The Old Country this summer? Let us know in the comments below!

Opinion Piece - Oblivion Is The Remaster We Need Right Now
Bethesda’s shadow drop of their seminal title has already gone over well with fans, and I’m hoping it’s given them the desire to keep their momentum going.
Cyrodiil never looked as good as it does in this remaster
The Elder Scrolls is in a bit of a weird spot right now. It’s been almost 14 years since the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and almost half as many years since the announcement that Bethesda Game Studios were working on The Elder Scrolls VI: Untitled Edition with no tangible time frame in sight. And as much as it frustrates fans that there’s no real updates on the game’s development, I think the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is exactly what fans of the seemingly dormant franchise need right now.
It’s been almost 20 years since the original launch, and a lot has changed in the franchise and the industry overall since Oblivion launched on the seventh generation of platforms and as fans are chomping at the bit for new information, any information, I believe Oblivion Remastered will help keep fans busy for the next while. Anything but Skyrim ports and remasters will help take people’s minds off things. The original Oblivion is old enough that it will feel fresh again to those, like myself, who haven’t made the journey back to Cyrodiil in some time, or those fans who might be making the journey for the first time.
Oblivion is a chunky RPG, even though it’s from 2006, so it should be enough to keep players busy, at least for now. On top of that, it’s a new version of the game, meaning there will likely be a huge amount of fan-made mods releasing in the coming weeks to add to the game’s longevity, something Bethesda games are well-known for. As it stands, mods are already pouring in for the remaster. There are also fans that prefer Oblivion to Skyrim, and having a chance to jump into a modern version of the game with the progress that’s been made in the modding community in almost 20 years is an enticing option.
Tonight there’s gonna be a jailbreak, somewhere in this town (here)
As the gaming industry progresses, the number of remasters and remakes increases. Older titles that are only available on hardware may kick the bucket at a moment’s notice or be locked to a single platform that sees no further updates, and receive a new lease of life with a remake or remaster. They also offer players the ability to try a game or franchise for the first time. I spoke to a colleague of mine, and this was their first playthrough of Oblivion, having only played Skyrim before. While I can’t experience this game for the first time like they will, Oblivion Remastered is the next best thing for me.
Gamers are generally divided on the concept of remasters and remakes. Those against them usually cite wanting a new IP or a game’s relatively young release. While I agree certain games should be off the board for now (looking at you, Sony, and your multiple ports, remasters, and remakes of The Last Of Us franchise since the first game’s launch in 2013), I’m generally for the release of reimaginings of old classics. Other benefits to this method of game making is also the ability to gauge interest in a dormant franchise and help fund a possible sequel. For me, the process behind bringing old games to newer hardware is important to keep game franchises alive and relevant while inviting new fans to take a chance on a game they may have missed out on.
One of the joys of playing a remaster is that the game now looks how you remembered it looking when you first started playing it, all those years ago. Graphics have improved since then, but if the gameplay remains the same, or improved through quality of life features, it does help with nostalgia, bringing back memories of times when you originally played the game, and being able to feel like you have briefly stepped back in time to those days where you may not have had as many cares.
The Imperial City, home to the finest… Imperials. And everyone else programmed to be here
Oblivion Remastered has come at an excellent time for fans of the Elder Scrolls series and RPG fans alike. The future of the series remains in progress as Bethesda is eager to reassure us, but without the addition of any new information, fans will lose interest. Not everyone is interested in dumping hundreds of hours into The Elder Scrolls Online, but people do want to return to the franchise in a familiar way, even if it isn’t entirely new, and are already worn down by the numerous re-releases of Skyrim (sorry Sony, I see now you’re only following Bethesda’s lead) to every platform imaginable.
Unlike the Fallout franchise, Elder Scrolls fans didn’t receive a TV show to help tide them over, and though Bethesda failed to capitalize on that outside of some Fallout 76 and Fallout Shelter content, it will be some time before we see a new entry in that franchise either. So here’s hoping the other rumours are true and a remaster of Fallout 3 is due out sometime soon. A graphical overhaul and combat improvements are just what that title needs.

The Oblivion Remaster Is Real And It’s Here!
Most likely viewed as one of the worst-kept gaming secrets, if not the worst-kept, the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is real and it’s finally here!
Time to once more shut the jaws of Oblivion, this time in HD!
In a time before Skyrim (but after Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind) there was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Oblivion was an RPG for the ages. Releasing all the way back in 2006 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, it was the first mainline entry to release on the seventh generation of consoles to critical and commercial acclaim.
This was a time when Bethesda was highly regarded and in its prime, though Oblivion did receive some criticism for its regression of RPG mechanics. But to many, Oblivion is a gaming classic. And so, Bethesda has partnered with Virtuos to bring Oblivion to 2025 with all the bells and whistles you’d expect of a remaster.
Building on the game’s original “cutting-edge technology” engine, Virtuos has utilized Unreal Engine 5 to take everything that made Oblivion great and cranked it up to 11. Boasting the usual enhanced graphics, Virtuos also reworked the combat and animations, making it seem a little less janky while still holding onto that signature Bethesda charm.
More importantly, they expanded on what other improvements they’ve brought to the remaster. The original game was lacking in voice work, but the developers have gone all in, recording new voice lines and ensuring each race sounds different. I’m personally hoping they left some of the voice line blunders intact.
Virtuos also explained their overhaul of the skill systems, citing inspiration from both Oblivion and Skyrim. It seems they are keeping the classes and expanding further on the skills and classes to make them stand out more. It’ll be interesting to see what has changed from the original 2006 launch.
There’s plenty more information in the official reveal video, including a look at the history of Oblivion from developers who worked on the original and the team at Virtuous who took the lead on the remaster. And to top it all off, the two teams announced the game is launching today on Xbox Series consoles, Game Pass, PlayStation 5, and PC, complete with both story expansions. I already have my copy downloading.

DOOM: The Dark Ages Controller Up For Grabs!
If you are interested in a chance to win a limited edition DOOM: The Dark Ages controller, read on to find out how to enter.
Rip and tear through DOOM: The Dark Ages with this custom controller if you can
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that DOOM: The Dark Ages is right around the corner. We don’t have too long to wait to jump into the follow-up/prequel (Pre-Sequel?) to DOOM: Eternal when it launches next month on every platform except Nintendo Switch.
DOOM: The Dark Ages will be one of those chronological release sequels that is actually a prequel that will feature improved combat and gameplay features over the game that follows it in its timeline. The thing with prequels that are released after their predecessors is that we never receive an explanation on how our characters forget everything they know and downgrade their gear. Maybe Doomguy gets a bump on the noggin before the end of the game. Or maybe it ties into how DOOM (2016) starts with our main character breaking free from his hellish prison.
If you’re interested in loading into The Dark Ages with a sweet custom Xbox controller to rip and tear through all manner of nasty buggers, then you might be interested in entering the Doom Sweepstakes they announced over on their social media sites.
You can be in with a chance to win this gorgeous custom controller by following the following the official DOOM account and reposting the sweepstakes post. There’s also a link for all of the rules and eligibility outlines to make sure you can enter and how the sweepstakes will play out.
There’s currently only one controller up for grabs, meaning entrants will be competing with every other DOOM fan for a chance to win. There is no runners up, so you’re in it to win. The one winner is also encouraged to get in contact with the team over at Bethesda to claim their prize within a short time span.

Lucasfilm Games Partners With EA For Star Wars Zero Company
Star Wars fans have a new game to look forward to. Star Wars Zero Company has been announced for PC, Xbox Series consoles, and PlayStation 5.
Mr Freeze makes his way to the Star Wars galaxy
It seems that Lucasfilm Games is teaming up with EA for more than a sequel to Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, as it has just been announced that Bit Reactor is working hard on a new single-player turn-based tactics game for PC, Xbox Series consoles, and PlayStation 5.
The new title, led by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, was revealed on the Star Wars website, showcasing some of the characters under your command. “Recruit an unconventional team of operatives and deploy them on missions unlike any other in the galaxy far, far away in Star Wars Zero Company!” reads the opening blurb on the website, before explaining a little more about the project.
There’s not much further information available for Zero Company just yet, but fans eager for more can tune into Star Wars Celebration Japan on April 19th at 4:30PM Japan Standard Time for the first details on the game. It’s been a while since we got a Star Wars game that tries something new, so this could be something worth keeping an eye on.
Bit Reactor features talent that worked on XCOM, Civilization, Gears of War, and Elder Scrolls Online, so this game seems to be in pretty safe hands. Bit Reactor are supported by Respawn and Lucasfilm Games, but there’s no information on how involved they are. Respawn had one of their own Star Wars titles cancelled last year, so it’s possible they moved some of their assets and resources to this project.
Would you play a turn-based tactics Star Wars game? Let us know in the comments.

Sony Hikes PS5 Prices Once Again In Europe, Australia, and New Zealand
Sony (once again) increase the prices of their mainline PlayStation 5 consoles in multiple regions, going live today.
Sony are eager to get ahead of the tariffs facing multiple countries and businesses.
It seems PlayStation 5 gamers can’t catch a break. On top of what many are viewing as a weak generation affecting games overall, there haven’t been many exclusives coming out of Sony that have been as critically acclaimed as in previous generations. This isn’t an issue exclusive to Sony (sorry, couldn’t resist), however. Things have been somewhat lacking between Sony and Microsoft releases.
But to add more on top of people’s feelings of how cost-effective the PlayStation 5 generation has been after the release of the PS5 Pro, Sony has just announced that they’ll be increasing the price of their flagship consoles in a few regions: Europe, Middle East & Africa, Australia, and New Zealand while the PS5 Pro remains unaffected.
Citing “a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates,” Sony Interactive Entertainment has made the decision to raise the retail price of the PlayStation 5 Digital and Standard editions in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand.
This is not the first time Sony has raised the price of the PS5. 5 years into a console generation and prices continue to rise instead of dropping as in the past.
Here’s a look at the prices we can expect to go into effect as of today:
In Europe, the Digital PS5 will be raised to €499.99 while the Standard remains unchanged
In the UK, the Digital PS5 will be increased in price to £429.99 while the Standard remains unchanged
In Australia, the Standard PS5 rises to AUD $829.95 and the Digital rises to AUD $749.95
Meanwhile, in New Zealand, the Standard PS5 increases to a whopping NZD $949.95 and the Digital increases to NZD $859.95
That’s certainly one way to tackle the current economic crisis. What do you reckon? Will you remortgage your home for a new 5-year-old video game console? Sound off below!

Hades 2 Confirmed For Switch 2… And Not Much Else
Hades 2, the highly rated indie gem from Supergiant Games is confirmed to be launching on Nintendo Switch 2 as a timed console exclusive.
Fast-paced gameplay and killer art style? It can only be a Hades game
Are you a fan of Hades and are looking forward to its long-awaited sequel? Are you a Nintendo or PC player? Good! Are you a PS5 or Xbox Series gamer? Well, if so, you’re currently out of luck as developer Supergiant Games has confirmed at the end of a Nintendo trailer that Hades 2 will be a timed console exclusive for the Nintendo family of consoles.
For some gamers, it’s not all doom and gloom as a large number of today’s gaming crowd has at least more than one device to play on. But for those with only one system, this comes as a bit of a blow. There’s no indicator when the timed exclusivity will end and Hades 2 will makes its way to the other consoles to join the original Hades.
Supergiant confirmed both Switch consoles would be getting the timed exclusive, so at the very least they aren’t leaving the original in the dust. Timed exclusives can be anywhere from 90 days to a year, some can be shorter or longer. It all depends on the whims of the developers and any deals they may have struck. For the time being, the other two consoles will be missing out on the console launch for Hades 2.
What do you think of this? Are you able to pick it up regardless or are you left wanting? Sound off in the comments.

Xbox Games Showcase Announced Alongside The Outer Worlds 2 Direct
Always one to get ahead of the curve for summer showcases, Microsoft has confirmed their 2025 Xbox Games Showcase for this summer, followed by a The Outer Worlds 2 Direct.
Another Direct focusing on one of the next big titles has been announced, keeping in line with previous years
As is tradition for Microsoft these past few years, they have announced their next big showcase to slot in nicely with Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. Following January’s stellar Developer Direct and their ID@Xbox Showcase, the next date we can expect to see a big info dump on upcoming Xbox games will be Sunday, June 8th.
Following the precedent of previous summer Showcases, this Xbox stream will feature an in-depth dive into Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2, which was announced at E3 back in 2021 at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase with a tongue-in-cheek trailer announcing the title was ready… and not much else. We’ve since had some more updates on The Outer Worlds 2, but this Direct will lift the curtain back so we can see much more of the goofy sci-fi goodness we’ve come to love from Obsidian.
Many of the games shown at the Xbox Games Showcase will be coming to other platforms, first and foremost being PC. But that doesn’t rule out some announcements of more releases being day and date on Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Nintendo’s Switch 2 as Xbox continues to push for an all-inclusive gaming future. We will most likely see quite a few World Premiere announcements of games that might be an Xbox timed exclusive or feature additional content, as Microsoft is not shy about showing off other developers’ and publishers’ talents during their own showcase, putting many more eyes on releases that may otherwise be overlooked.
Sony tends to do their own thing around the summertime, and we recently had the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct that gave us the release date of their console, arriving mere days before Xbox’s next showcase.
Will you be tuning in to the Xbox Games Showcase or will you catch the Outer Worlds 2 Direct afterwards? Let us know in the comments.

Is Rainbow Six Getting A Turn-Based Game?
Rainbow Six, a series with deep tactical roots, could be getting a new tactical game, though in a way that breaks from series tradition.
Rainbow Six: Siege may not be nearing the end of it’s life cycle just yet, but we it seems we are getting a new title in the tactical shooter series
Rainbow Six: Siege is nearing its tenth anniversary this year. The live-service first-person shooter is the longest ongoing title in the Rainbow Six pantheon of games. While the series has strayed from its tactical shooter roots, it still has enough support to keep it alive. It hasn’t all been positive, however. Rainbow Six Extraction flopped quite spectacularly, but that was most likely because it veered too far from what made the series so well loved. Seriously, a tactical shooter trying to pivot into an alien-themed extraction shooter? Some ideas are best left on the wall.
Now it seems Ubisoft is taking a fresh swing at taking the Rainbow Six franchise into a bold new direction. A recent report hints that Ubisoft is currently developing a turn-based entry into the popular shooter franchise. The Rainbow Six series has undergone many changes since its inception as a tactical shooter. Since then, we’ve had different takes on the series, focusing on first- and third-person gameplay. A turn-based Rainbow Six could be an interesting way to shake things up once again.
Though it’s not officially been announced by Ubisoft, it’s apparently still another year or two away from seeing the light of day. Like traditional turn-based tactical games, this new R6 title will feature top-down gameplay in which players take on the role of Rainbow Six Operators - most likely from Siege - to breach buildings and save hostages or disarm bombs. To my mind, it will probably function somewhat similarly to the XCOM series from Firaxis.
This new title is supposedly targeting a launch on all major platforms, which may include the Nintendo Switch 2. What do you think? Would you play a turn-based tactical Rainbow Six? Let us know in the comments.

Pre-Orders For Nintendo Switch 2 Delayed In United States
During Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, they announced pre-orders for the new console would be going live on April 9th. However, they have since come out and advised of pre-order delays in the United States.
News of the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to get rockier
Originally planned for an April 9th launch globally, the pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have been delayed indefinitely in the United States. Citing the United States’ announcement of sweeping global tariffs hitting the majority of countries and “evolving market conditions,” Nintendo has decided to pause the pre-orders for its Nintendo Switch 2 for an undetermined period.
Though the pre-orders have been postponed in the US, Nintendo was quick to reassure fans that the June 5th release date of the console remains unaffected.
Nintendo hasn’t confirmed where the latest console will be manufactured, the original Switch consoles were manufactured in Vietnam and China. If that is the case for Switch 2, those two countries have been hit with heavy tariffs. It’s no wonder Nintendo wants to monitor the situation as it develops.
A lot is riding on the Nintendo Switch 2 being successful. While I doubt it will be a flop, it is definitely a step in a different direction for Nintendo. They may be biting off more than they can chew with this launch. We’ve seen before with the other consoles what happens when a console creator coasts by on the goodwill they have built up or tries to push an increase in prices. It hardly ever ends well. Nintendo’s own history is an indicator that no matter how well you do in one generation, it doesn’t take much for fans to turn on you by simply not buying your products. Fans always vote with their wallets, especially when gamers feel their wallets getting lighter.
Time will tell how this plays out for Nintendo. Do you think they will be fine or will the Nintendo Switch 2 have a shaky launch? Let us know in the comments.

Switching It Up: 5 Key Takeaways From Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct
Nintendo’s long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has finally arrived, and here is 5 important takeaways from the showcase and additional information released.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was a doozy and full of all kinds of information, all of which is interesting
Two First-Party Titles At Launch
First and foremost, Nintendo showed off two mainline titles coming from their studios for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2: Mario Kart World and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. If you’re unfamiliar with Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, you aren’t the only one. If you’re confused why it’s classed as a launch title… you aren’t the only one.
Out of the two Nintendo studio games coming to the Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour (henceforth known as NS2WT) is designed to help players get to grips with their new console. The downside? It’s not an actual game. Priced at €10, it is an actual paid tech demo. And that’s on top of the price of the Switch 2 (more on that later). Though it’s a neat concept, it is nothing more than a glorified tech demo and should be included with every console.
The second, and more important game revealed was Nintendo’s opening title, Mario Kart World, the next entry in the long-running kart-racing series. It’s been a few years since the last Mario Kart, so fans have been chomping at the bit for a new release, and this is shaping up to be a worthwhile offering. It’s the first mainline entry that will feature both open world and off-roading gameplay elements to the series.
Mario Kart World will also have an expanded player count, letting up to 24 players race head-to-head in a bid to take home the #1 spot. It’ll also come with over 40 playable characters at launch, many of which will have alternate costumes for players to unlock. If straight up racing isn’t your jam, there is a number of other features to take advantage of, such as boat racing, rail grinding, wall jumping, and the aforementioned off-roading segments.

Bigger, Bolder, Better
We got a look at a number of features the Nintendo Switch 2 has added compared to its predecessor. Boasting a new and improved 7.9-inch LCD (Not OLED) screen that runs games at 1080p, it’s definitely a step up from the original Switch. Stepping up to join the big leagues, the Switch 2 includes 4K Support alongside HDR to give games a crisper, clearer look compared to those on the Switch.
The Joy-Cons have also been reworked and, like the Switch, has received the number 2 to round out their name. Enhanced sticks, more responsive buttons, magnetically attached connectors for the Joy-Cons, and even an intriuging ability to utilize the Joy-Con 2s as a mouse, or mice, individually or together. This gives Switch 2 players greater capabilities for games that function better with mouse controls, such as RTS games. It was briefly alluded to during the Switch 2 announcement earlier this year, and now it’s been confirmed.
Did you have more games for your Nintendo Switch than you had storage? You aren’t alone. The original Switch had 32GB of memory, which even by standards at launch, was quite low. But that’s no matter. The Switch 2 will come with 256 GB of storage, which is 8x the amount of storage, giving players the capacity to bring more games with them on longer trips. The physical cartridges are also red now, for some reason. More Nintendo-like? They do read game data faster, so it’s not purely cosmetic.
Nintendo Switch 2: So far so good?
New Gadgets & Features!
Another new feature is… the C Button! The long awaited addition of a new button is sure to drive fans wild! No, wait, come back. Let me explain. The fabled C Button is the key feature that leads to Nintendo’s brand new online GameChat feature. This GameChat is above and beyond what gamers would usually expect from Nintendo, or any other console maker! Going beyond it’s mere namesake, it’s more than just the ability to have online voice chat with your friends. Pressing the C Button will launch the chat feature, but it also give players the option of sharing their screen to their party chat. This is highlighted in the Direct, with a group of players displayed on the bottom of the TV screen while another player’s game plays out in the foreground.
On top of that, if players have the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera (or another USB-C camera that is compatible), they can video chat while playing. Voice chat, video chat, and screen sharing are all part of this new GameChat. Other online parties would usually feature just audio chats, some might include audio and video. But not many would feature all three, especially not from the big console giants. Neither Sony or Microsoft includes the additional options together in their respective social functions. Nintendo is giving players the chance to sample GameChat for free until March 2026, after which Nintendo Switch Online is a requirement.
All things considered, it’s a pretty slick set-up.
3rd Party Games With Exclusives!
Third-party developers will be supporting the Nintendo Switch 2 en masse. While there were third-party games that came to the Nintendo Switch, the system quickly fell out of favour with developers after the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. The Nintendo audience is a massive market, but when the console you hope to ship on is underpowered, you have less of a chance to flex your creative and technical muscles.
That’s all changing now with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 closing the gap between systems. Third-party developers are coming back to Nintendo in droves, as shown in the Switch 2 Direct. Some of the games that were announced are games previously released elsewhere, but are now launching with a new Nintendo Switch 2 version with additional features. Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2: Fighters Edition, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade are among those games making their way to Switch 2 either at launch or down the line.
But it won’t just be ports coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 with exclusive content, as during the showcase, FromSoftware announced a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive called The Duskbloods. Like the previously announced Elden Ring: Nightreign, The Duskbloods is a brand new multiplayer IP launching in 2026. Any FromSoft fans hoping to pick it up better be in the mindset of picking up a Switch 2 while they’re at it, because there are no indicators it’s a timed exclusive. This is an interesting play for Nintendo, and I’m all for it. I hardly played my Nintendo Switch as I never really felt compelled to pick up third-party games, and the first-party titles didn’t appeal to me outside of a few of the obvious choices.
Looping back to the first-party titles, Nintendo has reconfirmed Nintendo Switch compatibility. If you’ve built up a hearty library of Nintendo Switch titles, you may also want the best possible experience for them. Nintendo has already predicted that, announcing certain Switch titles would get Nintendo Switch 2 versions. But they’re not simple upgrades. In fact, if you want better versions of your Switch games, you’ll have to shell out for the Switch 2 version. Some of the planned Switch 2 upgrades will include new features and content. For those Switch 2 upgrades, Nintendo will be planning to charge around €20, while upgrades with no new content will cost an additional €10.
The Cost of Business
Now we turn to the main factor outside the system itself: The price. What will the Nintendo Switch 2 set you back? I briefly touched on the cost of upgrading certain Nintendo Switch titles, but what other costs can you expect? I’ll cover each price that has been announced thus far.
The main console itself will set you back €469.99, around €140 more than the original Nintendo Switch. New generation consoles have always been on the pricey end, but usually Nintendo tends to avoid that. Not anymore, it seems. And sadly, that’s not the only place we’ll be looking at price increases.
Next up is the cost of Switch 2 games, at least those coming from Nintendo themselves. Mainline Switch 2 titles will set you back between €80-€90 apiece. There’s no set price for third-party games, but with Nintendo pushing that boundary, I can’t imagine many third-party publishers passing up the opportunity to make more money. Worry not, though! If you purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle, you’ll only be paying €510, saving you around €50. Wahoo!
If you’re keen to video chat with your friends while playing, the official Switch 2 camera is priced at €60. Not a fan of the Joy-Cons and want something a bit more in line with the other consoles? No worries! The Nintendo Switch Pro controller will cost a whopping €90. Now, if you’re one of those die-hard Nintendo fans (this Direct may have changed your tune) that just has to have all things Nintendo Switch, all that has been listed so far will total €690, counting the Switch bundle, aforementioned Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, camera, Pro controller, and Nintendo Switch Online to enjoy it all. And of course, these prices will also vary country to country, region to region.
I’m not a huge Nintendo fan overall. I respect what they’re doing, but the majority of their games and hardware just doesn’t appeal to me. Saying that, I do think this Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was pretty solid, all things considered. To me, there’s a lot more bad than good on offer here. The biggest setback is the cost of things, especially in a time where people have to choose between an increasingly expensive hobby and their own well-being. I believe those with more limited budgets will pass on the Nintendo Switch 2. Some may even pass due to not feeling it to be a significant enough upgrade. It will be interesting to see how the next few months leading up to and including the launch of the Switch 2 will be handled by Nintendo and fans alike. Nintendo has a habit of having a really successful run, followed by a more moderate or flat-out less successful run. But they always manage.
But what do you think? Will you be picking up the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch or later this year? Will you be waiting for another reason? Sound off in the comments.

Call of Duty To Allow Console-Only Cross-Play Option
Starting in Season 3 of Black Ops 6, Treyarch will be adding a new feature to the latest Call of Duty and let console players pair up with each other without having to deal with PC players.
Gear up, soldier! Your next task is to avoid the PC Master Race
If you’re one of the thousands of players still caught up in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as your live service of choice, then one of the next features coming to the live service shooter might be of interest to you. A new option to allow cross-play only between console players on Xbox and PlayStation will be added to the FPS with the launch of its Season 3 content drop.
This feature will give console players the ability to play only with other console players, leaving PC players to play with other PC players or console players who do not enable the feature. The idea behind this is to help alleviate the increasing issue console players have had with cheaters playing on PC.
Treyarch plans to split the MP Ranked Play and the Warzone Ranked Play, as well as offering the new Multiplayer-only setting for Quickplay, Featured, and Party Games matches. Once live, players can enable cross-play on or off, or choose the option for cross-play with consoles only.
Cheaters in Call of Duty are nothing new, but as technology advances, so too does the amount of cheaters and the software they use to make players’ lives miserable. It seems Treyarch is trying something new to mitigate the number of cheaters that players will have to deal with in Black Ops 6. Do you think this will work out? Let us know down below.

Sci-Fi-Lite Action-RPG MindsEye Ogles Summer Release
Ex-Rockstar Games President Leslie Benzies’s new studio Build A Rocket Boy has released a new trailer for their newest project, MindsEye, complete with drones, car chases, gunfights, and a release date.
Fans of near-future science-fiction games will have something new to play when MindsEye drops this summer
If this is the first you’ve heard of former Rockstar boss Leslie Benzies’ MindsEye - or if this is bringing memories of the announcement back to the surface - don’t worry. You aren’t alone. I had forgotten about MindsEye until this latest trailer popped up in my feed.
Benzies parted ways with Rockstar back in 2016 due to a dispute with Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, resulting in Benzies starting legal action for unpaid royalties. In October 2018, Benzies’ new studio Build A Rocket Boy secured funding for their new game, Everywhere.
If you’re wondering why we’re talking about Everywhere when we should be talking about MindsEye, it’s because MindsEye is planned as a game within a game, with Everywhere being planned as a metaverse of other game titles, the first of which being MindsEye. Or, at least, that’s how it was originally announced. The latest news on MindsEye doesn’t state one way or another if it will be following this plan.
The newest trailer, dubbed Welcome to Redrock, gives us a look at some gameplay in action alongside some story beats. MindsEye seems to share some DNA from Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V, due in no small part to the ex-Rockstar staff that joined Build A Rocket Boy, but it also seems to feature a not-too-distant future world of drones, augmentations, and humanoid robots. It personally reminds me of not only GTA: V, but of Cyberpunk 2077, paired with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and a sprinkling of I, Robot.
Over on the official MindsEye website, we also get a look at the pre-order bonuses. Pre-ordering now grants a free deluxe edition upgrade, which is pretty beneficial compared to pre-orders from other games. The deluxe edition of MindsEye comes with a host of in-game cosmetics, an exclusive weapon, access to a horde mission where players fight off a variety of enemies with distinct tactics and behaviours, and extra seasonal content to be announced post-release.
What do you think about a game within a game? Will you be picking up MindsEye or other games in this self-built metaverse? Sound off in the comments!

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Adventures Onto PS5 April 17th
MachineGames last minute Xbox hit, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle comes to PlayStation 5 in just a few weeks time.
Another Xbox-exclusive sneaks up on PlayStation platforms
MachineGames, the minds behind the revival of the Wolfenstein series, has announced their latest single-player hit, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is making its way over to PlayStation 5 on April 17th via a fun little video featuring Nolan North and Indy Soundalike Troy Baker having a banter-filled conversation about what makes a great adventure.
At the end of the video, we get a look at the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Collector’s Bundle, which, according to Bethesda’s website, is a PS5 exclusive bundle. Even when Xbox releases a game on their own platform, they get the shaft. There’s been no word if Xbox and PC owners can get their hands on this exclusive edition for their own platforms.
The Collector’s Bundle is jam-packed with all kinds of goodies, from story DLC The Order of Giants and pre-order bonuses to a steelbook and replicas of in-game items from Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. And all for the reasonable price (for a Collector’s Edition) of €199.99 or your equivalent.
The Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Collector’s Bundle is full of excellent goodies. Whip and fedora not included. Sadly.
Though the Collector’s Bundle does include the Order of Giants DLC, MachineGames has still not shared a release date for it just yet. It’s likely news on the DLC has been held back until the PlayStation 5 version is released, though it is surprising that the release date wasn’t announced for a later date during the same announcement.
Despite releasing too late to participate in 2024’s Game Awards, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle went on to receive positive reviews and a number of awards from other publications. It’s an enjoyable action romp that fills the treasure-hunting genre that both Tomb Raider and Uncharted have left vacant and is worth picking up on any platform. Will you shell out for the Collector’s Bundle or are you content with the base game? Let us know in the comments!

Xbox Appears To Leak Steam Tab On A UI Mockup
Rumours have been swirling lately about the next-generation Xbox currently in the works being closer to a PC and a recent mix-up adds fuel to that fire.
Classic blunder or controlled leak?
We’ve known for some time now that Microsoft has been working away on their next-gen Xbox, and more recently, they’ve announced they want their next console to be closer in function to a PC. Previous speculation also points in the direction that Microsoft will allow other storefronts on their next console, which would be a first.
So just what exactly is going on with the next Xbox? Well, the truth is we don’t actually know. What may or may not be planned is currently between Microsoft and any of its partners. But we may have an idea, if the latest mockup of their “This is an Xbox” campaign is anything to go by.
Microsoft uploaded an image of an Xbox UI mockup in a blog post that caught many an eye, as it curiously included the PC powerhouse Steam as one of the tabs you can install games from. The image was swiftly removed and a modified version sans Steam was reuploaded in its place, but the internet always remembers.
The mockup shows the new Xbox UI displayed on a TV, tablet, phone, handheld, and laptop, despite the new UI being designed only for phones. This could be an indicator that we will be getting a unified Xbox UI that will function on any device with a screen, as is Microsoft’s plan to bring their ecosystem to as many devices as possible.

Is Starfield Finally Landing On PlayStation?
It seems Starfield’s Xbox exclusivity could be coming to an end, with indicators the game is making its way to PlayStation 5 soon.
Starfield was criticized heavily by PlayStation players, but would that change if it came to PS5?
Microsoft could be gearing up to launch Bethesda Game Studio’s latest sci-fi romp, Starfield on PS5 sometime soon. While we haven’t heard any official word from Microsoft or Bethesda about this, the PlayStation logo appeared in Starfield’s Creation Studio’s list of available platforms.
Bethesda quickly removed the logo after people spotted it, but they were too late as images of the logo quickly circulated the internet. Whether the logo was an accident or a hint of things to come is anyone’s guess, but Xbox head Phil Spencer has ruled out the possibility of Starfield remaining an Xbox exclusive.
If Starfield were to come to PlayStation 5, it would join a small number of previously exclusive Xbox titles like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, and the recently announced Forza Horizon 5. Would you pick up Starfield on PS5? Let us know in the comments.

Techland Doesn’t Want Players To Underestimate Dying Light: The Beast
The once-planned DLC turned for Dying Light 2 turned standalone game Dying Light: The Beast is set for this year and developer Techland wants you to treat it with the same respect you’d treat another mainline entry.
Pictured: Zombies shamble towards a human pinata to crack open some goodies.
Dying Light: The Beast is set for a summer release, but the minds behind the series at Techland seem to be a little worried that players will underestimate their new release due to it’s origins as a DLC for the divisive Dying Light 2. As a massive fan of the original Dying Light, I felt the sequel fell short in a number of ways, to the point I still haven’t completed it to this day. After 7 years between releases, Dying Light 2 launched with so many missing features and designs from its predecessor. For a sequel to one of the best zombie games of all time, Dying Light 2 sure felt different. And not in a good way.
That may be one of the reasons Techland is hesitant about the release of The Beast, concerned that fans will write it off if they didn’t play or even finish Dying Light 2. To instill some confidence in gamers, franchise director Tymon Smektala spoke out during a recent Q&A about the upcoming title. Smektala spoke a bit more about the game’s setting and how it will play into The Beast. Gone are the urban jungles of Harran and Villedor, replaced with the dense canopy of Castor Woods (which, now that I think about it, sounds like a James Bond villain or something), which is a far sight better than the game’s actual villain name, Baron. Seriously, hit me up, Techland. I’m happy to point out the obvious to you and help you in future games.
The game’s new setting lends itself more to a survival-horror experience than previous entries, something Techland are more than happy to lean into. Smektala said the team is utilizing refined enemy AI and more reactive environmental elements to help “take more creative risks that weren’t feasible in a larger open-world game like Dying Light 2: Stay Human.” As such, the more condensed setting will make this undertaking easier for the team.
Dying Light: The Beast originally started as a paid DLC for DL2, but a huge leak of the original concept dashed those plans, forcing Techland to roll with the breach and rework major points of the DLC. In doing so, the devs decided to make it a standalone game, with the return of Kyle Crane, the main protagonist from the original Dying Light, at the helm for a new survival horror experience.
What do you think? Will you be picking up Dying Light: The Beast when it launches? Let us know in the comments.
